How Do You Prepare For a Trip?

Hey there! Heading out of Bangkok for a few days next week. It's actually for work purposes, but rest assured I'll throw in fun things to do. It's official: I'm in trip-preparation mode.

And, if I must confess, even just this part gets me all giddy! (*twirling*)

I like to do a bit of reading to get a general idea of the destination, if I'm not familiar with it already. Then, I look at the weather forecast a few days in advance to help with my packing. I also jot down a few restaurants and bars around the area where I'm staying, if ever I'm caught with no idea where to go. I also research shopping venues if I'm interested in buying something specific while there, such as brands I can't get back home. Or local handicrafts.

What do you normally do? Do you research information on your destination? Do you write down restaurant/bar/shopping/event suggestions?

Do you ask friends?
